The legendary ‘Turkey’
Circa late 1850S - 1967/68

Probably the most talked about and most remembered landmark of our Village, the 'Turkey’.. circa late 1850s -1967/68
For all the people I have spoken to who lived in and remembered the ‘Turkey’ I have not heard one bad word said of it..Yes the houses weren’t in the best of conditions, but it’s the atmosphere, the comradery, friendships and the solid community spirit they remember most.. or is this just nostalgic thoughts?, It’s said you could leave your door unlocked all day, but as our Jeff used to say “we had nothing to steal”....
Demolished as part of the HNUDC slum clearance plan in the 60s.
